I think this is a lovely idea. We should do it in the UK.

I JUST read that- I think it's fab too. Just the whole premise of giving every child the same opportunity and start in life.

The UK is too large for this kind of token gesture. I don't see the hype over a cardboard box.

The parents are responsible for the baby, not the state.
Wow, those few days worth of nappies sure helped save a bunch of lives.

It's an incredible drop in mortality. I really like the idea; from family experience, having a child, especially the first, leaves little time to do anything, and a 'care package' from the state is a really nice way of helping new parents out.

We could offer it along with an option reduced rate of child benefit instead
