How can you start a society ?

thanks
Hi, thanks for your question!

Firstly, Leeds University Union offers over 250 clubs and societies, so hopefully you'd find at least one that you'd like to join! You can view the full list here: http://www.leedsuniversityunion.org.uk/groups/

But, if you think there's something missing, then you can certainly set up your own. You'll need to ask yourself some questions:

Who is going to help me run my society?

Is there already a society organising the kinds of events that I want?

Who is going to join my society?

You need a group of three people who are willing to become the society committee for the first year, and then at least 25 current University of Leeds students who support the formation then you'll be really ready to get things moving.

Four times a year we allow submissions for new societies, the next session is October, and the deadline for applications is the 6th October. The process that follows includes you presenting your ideas to the union, you running a formation event, and then the activities executive take a vote on whether your society is ready to officially form. You can find lots more information on-line at: http://www.leedsuniversityunion.org.uk/groups/howtostart/

I'm curious now, what sort of society are you thinking of starting?
