AS Maths (C1-2, M1/S1) - Who's starting this after Summer?

Hello!

I've just finished my GCSEs and I'll be starting A Level maths soon, along with other subjects. I know that quite a lot of people on TSR have done Level 2 Further Maths (woo!) or the FSMQ so you'll have a grasp of some of the content and also there'll be many people learning it straight from (I)GCSE.

I'm starting this thread for people who will be studying this over the holidays, since it's a well known fact that people on TSR have no lives, study all day and have 70 A*s  - and would like to discuss the subject (until there's an official thread at the start of the year).

What do you have problems with, what do you enjoy, what topics have you covered and what will you be covering?

I've covered C1, C2 and S1 already, I'll be doing M1 soonish. Anyone interested in joining me?

I can't believe this. Are there actually people who study in the Year 11 summer holidays? And also, not every A* student on TSR studies all day! I didn't listen in lessons, didn't do homeworks (got detentions for that LOL) and I managed to cram everything in the day before the exam. I'm pretty sure I've got at least 8 A*s. But yeah, most of them do put a lot of work in every day to achieve their grades and that's why you'll see a lot of them struggling as they get more specialised and more natural talent is required.
I did C1 this year! And I'm going to do C2, S1, FP1, D1 and D2 next year . (I'm doing Further Maths as well, hence the many modules.)

I'm planning on studying C1-2 and maybe S1 since I've been told that we'll be doing S1 first and not M1 now. I'm starting to write up proper notes for C1 now, from Further Maths with AS book (doing a chapter every so often).

Not studying as such! Just going over some topics and writing up notes every couple of days or so . That was sarcasm since it seems that everyone on here has about a million A*s  Good luck with the modules by the way, D1 looks really interesting but we're only allowed to study S1 or M1 for AS and D1 if we do Further, which I'm not. How was C1 this year, any tips from studying it/the exam?

C1 was great! Except for one sly 1 mark question though. But yeah, if you're naturally good at Maths you should have no problem with C1. It's weird because most people either fail C1 miserably or have no problem with it. I think the key is doing ridiculous amounts of past papers and really understanding what you're learning from day 1, rather than blindly memorising. As for the exam, questions are unbelievably predictable and as long as you understand every topic they should be a walk in the park. The occasional oddball question does come up here and there but again, if you understand the stuff, you should be fine .
Can't wait till results though. I get C1 on A level results day as a little appetiser for the GCSE results day. Finally, 3 pages of the stuff instead of those boring 2/3 module results days .

Ah great, the occasional sly questions  Thank you very much for your reply and I wish you luck on results day! Yup, I agree with the module business, I can't wait until the whole of the pages get here with the foundations for A Level .
