Try the Guardian or Times league tables.

You could check out the league tables, but they usually change wildly every year. Most med students here i think will tell you there isnt a top ten, and really it comes down to which course/location suuts you best. I believe the system is such that what school you goes to doesnt affect your job chances at all.

In deedy. All UK med schools are regulated by the GMC, and to a high standard. Newpapers prepare annual tables, but these are very subjective, and there is usually so little between schools (a few %) that the positions of schools fluctuate wildley year on year. To give an example, in the August 2006 edition of Oxford Medicine, they are creaming their pants at coming top of the Guardian table for the 2nd year in a row...

Eeeeeeeuw, league tables. They are no better than toilet paper...but toilet paper is much softer on the buttocks.

ITA.

They're all following a core curriculum, it's just delivered differently. It's far better, IMHO, to decide things by the type of course you want, location, etc, etc than by trying to find a top ten.

You sound like a very good candidate! You've got nothing to worry about in terms of meeting the grades, IMO. However, don't think of applying for the 'best' med schools just because of their prestige. You'd be making it harder for yourself, and I think you'd be better looking at the course that's right for you rather than what's right for everyone else. Good luck.

Hi,
I hope everyone is well  I am going to apply for medicine as I am extremely interested in this area of study and would eventually like to continue and specialise in Paedeatric Cardiology. I was wondering what you thought my chances were of success i.e. gaining a place at med school. Please see the details below: (Thankyou  )
GCSE:6A'S and 5A*'S- these were gained by self study as I had cardiac health problems during my GCSE years

AS level: AAAAA -however this are resit grades as I had to move school, due to problems with teaching and class sizes. Also the school i moved to didnt provide the same subjects i had done previously. :-/
A2: predicted AAA

I have had to overcome a lot of problems during the process of these examinations. And it is only my commitment and determination to succeed that have pulled me through. However I am concerned because my AS grades are resit grades this may jepordise my chances?

In terms of work experience:I have over 100 hours of work experience including work in a GP out of hours service, resulting in me being in hospital at 3am on a saturday morning!! And 2 years working at an optometrists. As well as placements at 2 pharmacies for 4 weeks in total.

Other interests: I enjoy learning to speak french, german, and russian. I also find playing piano and cello a big stress reliever! My involvement in senior choir which allows me to sing and travel to places such as the albert hall, I also swim competitevly for my school. And recently qualifed as a lifeguard.

I wondered what you thought my chances were of a successful application?(subject to UKCAT scores and interview too...) but i would be very greatful for your comments. Any info gratefully received.
Many regards

nah i love london/oxbridge . students quite from all med schools each yr so when u look at indivdual cases it doesnt mean anything.
Oxbridge are very traditional in their teaching for medicine...and the interviews are rlly stressful if your not a super genius. As to the gurl nadezhda...im sure ull do fine but plz note that over 3,000 AAA applicants who had recieved offers from oxbridge and MADE THE GRADES were turned away due to the amount of ppl given offers and due to other ppl having better social/people skills and such. So as far as your grades are conscernd they look fine. Erm your work experience (the medical stuff is all good) but i was denied interviews at Nott and Newcastle becus i didnt have enough CARE!!!! So go join an elderly home or care home as a volunteer quickly, it could just be the one thing they decide to highlight as the reason for not choosing you, dont give them that excuse!

What I've highlighted in bold... I imagine it is a mistype, but to take the worry away from you applicants. If you receive an offer from a university the university is OBLIGED to accept you if you meet the conditions of the offer (get the grades etc.) What you wrote there makes it seem they turn people away after giving them offers. (did you mean interviews?)
everyones opinions are different

and to be honest i do not see how people can judge unless theyve studied medicine at all the 30 odd universities.

at the end of the day, picking a uni is about luck. the 'top' med schools people sometimes find the courses dont suit them or teaching is bad, and in others people might find the course amazing and love where they are.

i hate it when people judge med schools on statistics and league tables i think its a load of bull personally, it gives no insight into the school itself. just choose med schools based on places you like and if you like the sound of the course descriptions, its all luck

Yea i meant interviews I guess...its seems a bit extremely harsh if you read it the first way srry about that...But still it goes to show you that it's not all about the grades.
