Tens of thousands of students will miss out on university places with 100,000 fewer top A-level grades expected to be awarded compared to last year as results return to pre-pandemic levels
Hey there, thanks for posting a question in the Medicine forum.
The Medicine forum gets a high volume of questions being posted, and some of these are already answered by the resources and Megathreads that members of the community and volunteers have created. This is an automatic post which is designed to highlight these resources. Below is a list of threads and articles that could answer your question (you should be looking in the original post of the megathreads). If one of the below threads is a more relevant place to ask your question, please post a reply in that thread to ask your question. If your query is answered by one of the Megathreads or articles linked below, and you would like us to close this thread for you, please reply to this thread with just the words "thank you". As posted on your other thread where you say the same thing
It was announced before anybody sat an exam that the grades this year were to return close to the historical levels seen pre-covid.
Prior to covid, around 26% of people sitting A levels got an A or A*. That went up to 45% during covid and dropped to 36.4% last year, so if levels fall back to those seen historically - as the government said they should - then there will be tens of thousands fewer people getting an A* or A this year (10% of applicants), but this was expected, so unis have hopefully taken it into consideration with their offers
