I think you'd be fine. I do Edexcel, and there is no coursework. C1 is just like learning a new topic, then you meet harder but more interesting topics in C2, then I thought that C3 and C4 were like extensions of C2 to greater depth and difficulty plus some new topics, and even more interesting - especially the trig and Calculus if you enjoy it!

I'd say...make sure that you do enough practise, then past papers.

I think that it might be a good idea to take S1 in January if you could, because then you'd have the core units in May which are more similar to each other than to S1 so perhaps easier to prepare for.

Personally, I loved all the core units and hated S1 which was in my opinion not the most interesting unit at all, some of which was basically substituting a load of numbers into the correct equations. M1 was different, and might take more practice to get the hang of.
