Guys i am starting first year political economy at birmingham uni, do i even stand a chance at consultancy
Yeah definitely. Your degree isn't important unless you're going for a specialist consultancy company or going for a specific stream of consultancy, e.g. environmental, economics, technology etc. But even then the degree subject isn't massively important if you can demonstrate a strong interest in these areas. I've seen many people that are current consultants within Big 4 that did History, English Lit, Philosophy, or foreign languages.
Consultancy employers are very much looking at your soft skills - relationship building, project management, communication, and so on. So just make sure you participate in a few extra curricular activities where you can learn and exploit these skills, attend company and consultancy career fairs throughout uni (and ask lots of questions to employers here), and keep informed about the consulting industry in general - basically all the things I only learned to do when I was in third year! My personal recommendation is to aim to get a relevant summer internship between second and third year - something you won't have to worry about applying for until next summer.
Completed the online tests for Oliver Wyman & Mckinsey graduate scheme, not sure which one I found more difficult . Probably does not help I have not done an online test in 18 months.
Also have Mckinsey always done a numerical & verbal test? I found no mention of it online before I completed it?
McK have never done these before as far as I am aware... maybe new to cut down the amount of people that they invite to their office for PST? Definitely practice before you sit anymore but good luck - I'm sure you've probably done better than you think as others will feel the same!

Any theory on what scores they look for in these tests?

Probably not as high as OW and boutiques like Lazard etc as I imagine their primary indicator of ability is still the PST. So you will hopefully be fine! Figures are hard to indicate as (I'm assuming it wasn't standard SHL/Kenexa etc) they will be relative to how everyone else does as opposed to a pass mark.
This is just an assumption I'm making based on previous experiences though, sorry for not being able to offer anything more concrete.
Does anyone know if EY interviews are outsourced to another company? Got mine coming up and got an email notification that was sent from a non EY related email address.
Ps. Any tips? :P
Yeah they are. My interviewer couldn't answer any of the questions I asked at the end, she could only answer questions about the actual interview itself, so I don't think you need to ask any questions at the end, save that for the Partner Interview.

Just did the tests for McKinsey, thought they were pretty hard, definitely tougher than the ones I've been doing for the investment banks.
Just did these as well! How did your report tell you you did? Are you applying for the 2016 summer internship? Also, might be a dumb question but was there a submit button after you had finished the tests? Or were you just left on the 'completed' screen? Thanks for any help

Yeah for the summer 2016 internship. I don't think I saw or got a report, where did you get this and what did it say??
Um can't remember exactly, it did it though. When I log back in it says both tests are complete.

The report's on the same screen as the 'completed' tests, and basically tells you how you did relative to everyone else who has ever taken that test, eg. 'average', 'above average' etc.

that's weird... shouldn't matter though. Thanks! Best of luck with your application applying for any other consulting internships?
Yeah I'll soon find out when I'm either rejected or invited to the office for the PST.
Nope just McKinsey, applying for IBD at the investment banks and have an offer for a vac scheme at a law firm next summer so also applying for some of those aha. How about you?
