Is it worth an application?

I am a potential gap year applicant.
GCSEs 1A* 5A 1B 2C
current a-levels AAB
Only one of the a-levels is relevant (the subject I'm applying for) and it's currently being remarked to see if it will go up to an A*- however I think this is unlikely.
The other A- it's not relevant but I'm retaking one of the exams (I got full marks and a C, despite getting strait As/A* in mocks. I just screwed up the exam) in order to get an A*
In effect I would be applying with grades of either A*AB or A*A*B, although the definite A* would be predicted, from a retake and irrelevant to the actual degree course
My chosen course has a "typical offer" of AAA and an acceptance rate of 41%, however strongly considers GCSE's which obviously aren't too great (combination of laziness, undiagnosed dyslexia and a school later deemed inadequate)
I live about an hours drive from the nearest airport to get up there. Is it even worth bothering to go to the open day?

If it helps I'm hoping to spend my gap year working/ gaining relevant work experience and aupairing.
