Hi all,

Just got confirmation that my references were sent - my application for European Studies at LSE is finally completed  (I applied to the Research stream as first choice but there's only 2 places so not holding my breath lol. Second choice is the taught stream!).

Can anyone enlighten me as to how the application process will go from there? I've received an email saying my application was submitted but I don't know what/when to expect next

Thanks!

Lucie

Hi Flou, I also applied for the Public Management and Governance programme. My complete application was submitted on November 10th, and I've already received my LSE ID. We should be hearing back roughly at the same time in January. Good luck!

LSE is also my first choice. The only other programme I've applied to is the Master in Public Policy with specialisation in Public Management at Hertie School of Governance, which are also terrific for MPP.

Hey, nice to meet a fellow applicant  Hertie is also a nice choice and Berlin is a magnificent city. But for me personally, a two year programme would be a little to long (I already have a degree in law).

Congrats! The graduate admission office will review your application. The process will take about two weeks. The link will show you the current processing times http://www.lse.ac.uk/study/graduate/news/currentProcessing.aspx

Any applicants for the MSc in Public Policy and Administration here? That's my first choice. My second choice is the MSc in Philosophy and Public Policy.

I've been obsessively checking the Application Tracker, which continues to (stubbornly) read "Under Consideration By Department", since I was notified of my completed application on Nov 15. I know I should only expect to hear in January earliest, but one can always hope (against hope) of an early decision. Hahah

Me  !!! I got my ID on thursday (Nov 26), but I have to sent an additional document. That will delay my application for another week...meh...

Hey! I am applying for the MSc Political Communication...anyone else applying for this?

Did you guys submit a research proposal outline?I'm a bit confused. Not sure if I need to submit one or not. If you did how did you go about it? How specific/ long?

These are a lot of questions lol

Yes, I did! At least, I'm applying for the taught. Just waiting for my second rec to come in. If you're applying for the taught track, you don't need a research proposal, but I believe your personal statement should have some vague research ideas in mind (i.e. how this programme fits into your interests).

Thank you very much! Good to know.

Anyone else applying to European Studies! I'm so nervous because for the taught stream I wanted to submit a writing sample, but due to applying also to the research stream (MSc Research) I used up my miscellaneous item slot for my research proposal. Speaking of research proposal how did everyone structure theirs? I kept mine under 1,000 words given it's not for a PhD and my methodology is pretty basic so far...

hey! thanks for the reply. Yeah, I am applying for the taught program too. I just wasn't sure if I needed to submit the research proposal outline? It is not very clear on the supporting documents page since its a bit vague and the page for the program doesn't mention anything about it. I do talk about vague research ideas in my personal statement kind of like you mentioned. Just how the program fits my interests and what I hope to gain from it.

This is stressful. I'm still tweaking my personal statement. Hoping to apply late december early january.

Good luck with your application!

hey everyone,

I pounced on the application and got it all finalised/IDd by the 28th October (I think) - so I'm HOPING I can slip in there and get an answer of some sort before New Years.

My personal statement was sort of... personal. I've never had to write one before (didn't need to for undergrad) so it was as much about the motivation I have for getting into my area as it was about where I want to go next. Will see how that goes, lol.

I'm an international student, and it's really hard to know if they'll consider my university a good one or not bah.

Which course did you apply for?

And postgraduate statements are a completely different ball game to UG, in my view. Hopefully that's some reassurance for you.

Best of luck!
Doesn't it say somewhere that offers for graduate programmes will be sent out as soon as January and definitely not before that? :-)

Yup. The website says the first offers (and rejections I guess) will be given out from January 2016 onwards.

I only applied for one course. Writing two personal statements was way too much effort.

Uh oh, I wrote 1 statement for 2 courses :s-smilie:

Ah well, at least both courses are named the same "European Studies" it's just one is taught with short dissertation and the other is research (1+3) with only a couple classes and a long dissertation. It was so difficult to praise one course's structure without sounding like I was dissing the other's especially since the same people likely will review my application!! Argh. OH WELL!! :bban:

I was talking about two distinct taught courses. If it's the same course, but just taught and research, it should be fine.

Ditto! They actually prefer one PS if the programmes you are applying to are similar

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does this mean, regardless of when you submitted the application, no announcement will be made, either way, on the outcome of our application?

Furthermore, how is our application handled once it's given to the department selectors? Do they determine applications as soon as they arrive, but refuse to let you know until January?

I assume the department selectors are in the middle of teaching lectures and seminars, so maybe applications are determined once a week or something.

Thanks guys

From what I've gathered, that's correct. Regardless of when you submitted, the earliest you can get a reply is January. If you submit your application later on, then you'll get a reply in late January for February.
