Student Visas - When can I start working?

I just got accepted to LSE for MSc Econometrics!

My job has a london office and they want to keep me on part time while i am studying there, which is great. They want me to go over as soon as possible to start work, which is good for me too as I'll be able to save lots...

My problem is, I'm not sure what my student visa will allow me to do - I know I can work 20 hrs/week during term time and FT during 'vacation time'. However I had the following two questions, for anyone that might know answers:

a) If my course starts at the beginning of October, what is the start date on my student visa likely to be?

b) Can I work as soon as I arrive, or do I need to wait until term time starts? (as the time before I start wouldn't really be 'vacation time' i guess?)

(PS If there is a different subforum I should post this in can someone pls let me know!)
I'm guessing your visa will probably start a week or so before that date although I'm not sure. As for working, as soon as your visa is current you can work.

I don't see why you shouldn't be able to get a work permit though (i.e. instead of a student visa).

You've probably sorted it out by now but you should just phone up the local British consulate and ask them.

I believe you can start working as soon as you get your visa. As for the work permit, please check whether you can get one if you are working part-time ( I , personally, doubt it)

BTW, you will authomatically get a year-long work permit when you'll
complete your masters.
