The Student Room Group

Very mature sttudent...

Hi all,

I am 54 years of age and have a first degree and an MBA. I run my own business on a part-time basis.

I have been looking at opportunities for teaching part-time - in FE or similar organisations.

I am registered with an agency - Protocol - but I can't apply for any of the jobs they email me as I have no teaching qualification.

What do I need to do - they mentioned needing at least Level 3 in teaching and I also read of the 7407 City and Guilds?

Are these the courses I should be looking at - what do they entitle me to do?

Can they be studied part-time - and if so, I would need to find somewhere local to enrol.

Thanks.

Hello,
If you check out https://www.feadvice.org.uk/i-want-work-fe-skills-sector/i-want-be-teacher-fe-skills/teaching-qualifications-fe-skills-sector

it talks about different qualifications for FE and that should point you in the right direction. Another starting point is https://getintoteaching.education.gov.uk/explore-my-options/further-education-teacher-training

I can't help any further but just so you know you are not alone, I am nearly 50 and retraining as a science teacher in secondary. Good luck!
