I was asked to do an afternoon shift once. I asked "what is the shift allowance?" Reply was "same rate as days, shift allowance only applies to nights". I responded "I am unable to do afternoons as I am doing a part time course in college, so the only other shift I can do is nights". And that was that.

why do people ask these questions? if this is YOUR interview you need to give a situation from YOUR life not some strangers example from the internet... they will ask follow up questions and see through your lie and you won't get the job... it doesn't have to be something impressive, they just want to know that you have useful qualities (e.g. don't panic, problem solve, flexibility etc)
