Anyone think there's any point my daughter putting Durham as insurance?

She wants to firm Oxford (Law) - AAA offer

Durham (Law again) is her second favourite but her offer for that is A*AA

Just thinking, Durham may be more flexible than Oxford if, say, she ended up getting A*A*B or A*AB

I've seen some people with AAB offers for Durham Law.

Thanks.

Durham is more flexible than people think re: grades (they do sometimes give lower offers on access schemes and iirc have some courses in clearing).

For example (on my course page):

"We consider each application holistically. Whilst academic achievement is important, it is not the only factor that we consider when assessing applications and applicants who have achieved, or are predicted to achieve, close to our typical offer, but who have not met it exactly, will be welcome to apply if they have a strong application in other key elements."

Also on the law page:

"If you do not satisfy our general entry requirements, the Foundation Centre offers multidisciplinary degrees to prepare you for a range of specified degree courses. "

November 23rd, but mine was pretty fast compared to many, so don't let that worry you. How are your grades?

Predicted 3 A*'s and got all A*'s, A's and B's at GCSE. What about yourself? Trying not to panic, I just hate waiting!

That is certainly unlucky. Competition must be very fierce. When did you find out? I'm assuming from your user name you applied to Oxford, how did that go?

I was applying with APs. But I asked Durham and it was equivalent of 4A* I believe.

Best of luck.
Got an offer fro IR

Wow congratulations!!! May I ask what your GCSE/AS/predicted grades were?

Sorry to hear that :frown:

Are you on a gap year? If so, it's probably because they are not convinced with what you're doing during it. Or, more generally, it just came down to the personal statement.

Durham really should interview/have an entrance exam for subjects they reject ~50% or more of applicants. It's not right at all that entry to a university can come down to a personal statement.

Thanks, I think you're probably right. They replied to me and looks as if they're rejecting c. 90% of applicants; they said 1600 applied for 175 places! So not so annoyed now I know that aha.
