How does freshers work at Queen Mary?

I'm going to be in private uni accommodation, so I won't be in the main halls, though I'll be really close. My only question is that when I get to uni and move in, where do I go for the first freshers event? Who do you even go with, considering that you won't know anybody yet? Won't you look a bit bad turning up alone to a club? Will I need to buy that wristband thing beforehand?
