I was letting you know that nobody cares, as you didn't seem to realize judging by the fact that you bumped the thread.

Jog on.
I know plenty of people who have taken resits and got in, so no I don't think it matters.

thanks thats the kind of answer i was after
I think it depends on how competitive the course is... obviously they're not going to be cool if you're applying for Medicine, as they need to differentiate between candidates. Your best bet is to email the admissions tutors for your subject and see what they say about it.

it's not the end of the world if you cock up your AS, I got BBC, so applied for Ox and not Cambridge, and managed to get an offer. Taking an AEA would help you though...
I emailed the admissions people at Exeter with a couple of questions, this amongst them. According to them "We do not require unit marks".

Does this definitely apply to the 2008 application cycle?

As far as I know; what I quoted was literally all they said.

Ah, OK. I might ask for confirmation at the next open day. Thanks anyway!

Our school have said that they will be seeing UMS marks when we apply (2009), and in some subjects (maths and chemistry) the teachers are getting more and more bitchy about getting as close to 300 as possible. Maths especially, im taking the whole A level this year, i got an A (just about) in the mocks overall in jan, but teachers said that i should be aiming a lot higher if i'm looking at oxbridge :s-smilie:
Even more harsh considering that i'm taking C1 C2 C3 C4 M1 and FP1 this yr, meaning i still have 6 dosser modules in S1,2,3 and D1,2,3 to do if i really want to get 600

Schools are notorious at not knowing what they are talking about. I reiterate- please accompany new information with proof- (admissions website, newspaper article etc.) rather than 'so and so told me this'.

Well which admissions cycle do you think it applies to?

well, our school is a quite prestigious grammar school who always have double figures of pupils going to oxbridge, so i reckon that the uni's do get the ums marks

^^^good for you. However the point of this thread is to clear up confusion and speculation; people have been spouting similar claims since the year i was applying (three years ago), often backed up by their school telling them so- so far, none of it's come true. If it's true, i'm sure you'll be able to find some evidence of it pretty quickly- oxford make a point of being upfront about their admissions policies because they're under so much scrutiny.
"Oxford University does not require its candidates to disclose information on the unit grades that have been achieved through their AS and A2 studies, but a candidate may include this information within their UCAS application should they wish to do so. Any conditional offer would usually be made on the basis of final grades alone."

From the Oxford university website - the specific page that this quote comes from was last updated 3 weeks ago, so I imagine it's about the most up-to-date information you'll find.

^^^Finally, a solid answer, thank you!

Ok, i asked my school for a solid answer, and they said that you should get higher UMS marks and put them in your application as it does give you a large advantage
