PGCE For Secondary Biology Interview

Hi, I have an interview at MMU for Secondary Biology. One of the parts to the interview is to “teach a 10 minutes lesson exploring a favourite aspect of my science specialism (which is Biology) at KS4 level”- so Year 10s and 11s. I’m really panicking as I can’t think of anything and was wondering if anyone had any ideas. I don’t know if it as to be curriculum based or not but any suggestions would be much appreciated.
I expect they will want to see something on the national curriculum- there's a link here:
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/national-curriculum-in-england-science-programmes-of-study/national-curriculum-in-england-science-programmes-of-study#key-stage-4

The KS4 curriculum has links to all strands of biology, so I would choose one that you will genuinely enjoy talking about- your enthusiasm needs to come across in the interview!

10 minutes is very short- you won't really have time for a proper activity- but you could do quick starter type activity e.g. "what is the link between these images, which is the odd one out, what do all these words relate to" sort of thing, and then 5 minute or so introduction to the topic pitched at a 14/15yo sort of level. Look at what they will have already covered in KS3, and focus on the things that would be new content.

I hope this helps a bit- I'm currently coming to the end of a Biology PGCE, so I'm happy to help out if you have further questions.
