I think this person is the best to reply. Tell us about the problems with contacting admissions Jess. It's been happening for many years now. Maybe you can relay this feedback official rep?

Hi there,

Unfortunately I am a student rep/ambassador so I cannot give official information regarding admissions, but the problems with contacting them is most likely due to the high number of emails and calls they will be receiving, with current COVID-19 situation meaning people are working remotely or there are less staff available, which overall means that the admission team can only respond to everything so quickly. My only advice would be to keep emailing and phoning them (as annoying as it is for you to have to do that), and give them your feedback. Alternatively, you can contact the department for your course and they may be able to help you.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help,

Hey Jessica, do you know why the admissions office doesn't reply to me via e-mail? I sent them 3 or 4 e-mails in the last weeks regarding my conditional offer, but I haven't heard anything back. I uploaded all the documents which were asked for in my offer via samis, and that about 8 weeks ago, but nothing has yet been confirmed to me. Do you maybe know another way of contacting the university at the moment? Thank you!

Hi there,

Firstly, I'm so sorry you're having trouble contacting admissions as I understand how frustrating it is, especially under the current circumstances. The admissions team is always very busy around this time since they obviously have such a high number of emails, phone calls and office work to manage. With the current COVID-19 situation on top of that, many staff are working remotely, so it is even harder to manage the huge amount of emails. My advice would be to try phoning them a few times throughout the day, as it's easy for emails to get lost in an inbox with 1000s of emails, so they're more likely to answer by phone. When I was applying to Bath, I was having trouble contacting them by email but they answered pretty quickly when I phoned them.

Alternatively, you could contact the department for your course to see if they can help you, or they may be able to pester the admissions team for you. If you tell me what course it is, I can find the relevant contact details for you

I hope this has helped,

It's not because of covid 19. Admissions have been messing up since 2014. They were like this in 2014 they didn't reply to me for two months until i contacted another service at the university. Bath admissions has always been notorious for not giving responses.

Hey i'm a mature student at bath uni. i've been here for long ....feel free to ask me questions 😊

Hi! Thanks for what you're doing here. I've got a couple questions since I've recieved an offer and I'm deciding whether to accept it or not. For context- i'm an international (Indian) student hoping to do my masters at the Psyche dept.
1. How is the city of Bath in general? What does it offer? (Apart from maybe the nightlife, that doesn't matter to me honestly...)
2. How are the teaching staff at Bath? I've been to a couple of webinars, just not dept ones and I've not gotten a chance to interact with them yet. Are they approachable? And will they be available if I've got questions?
3. Also I read one of your replies and you've mentioned that its better to avoid campus accommodation. Can I know why?
4. Many people have talked about how Bath would be their number one choice thanks to its rankings, but i'd like to know if it really lives up to its name. Do you happen to know anything about the Psy dept in particular that would help me decide? And do rankings really matter in the UK job market anyways?
Thanks in advance and sorry if I've swamped you with questions!

But how is she staying at Manchester then? Shes rarely at bath and she lives full time in manchester, going to bath weekly or twice in a week. Her british friends do the same

She might be doing a course with very low contact hours, where you only have maybe two or three lectures a week. She must be using her attendance monitoring app to log in to her lectures at the venue, and I'm assuming the rest of her week must be self study, in which case it's fine to live in Manchester. It would be possible for a course like that, however, most Bath courses have high contact hours, and it would not be prudent to stay so far away from campus, especially if you're an international student. You'll have to sign in to lectures, tutorials, labs, studio sessions using the Attendance monitoring app.
Bit of a random question, but do you know much the washing machines cost to do a load of laundry? Thank you in advance

Hi there - thanks for your question!

There are many laundry blocks scattered around campus and in the city accomodation. The machines are operated by Circuit Laundry. When you move in, you are given a card which you can top up online. The prices are as follows:

- standard wash: £2.80
- super cycle wash: £3.30
- tumble dry: £1.50

These prices are subject to change. Hope this helps!

Hi there,

To add to Leah's response, Circuit Laundry is (as most people know) pretty unreliable unfortunately, but this is the case at all universities. If you do use the tumble dryers, you'll usually need to do 2 drying cycles to dry a full load of laundry. Most people end up buying a drying rack and just air drying stuff, as this saves your LOT of money and it's obviously better for the environment. My personal advice would be to only used the washing machines, but to air dry if possible as it's a lot cheaper, and you don't have to wait around for a tumble dryer that doesn't work properly in the first place.

I hope this has helped,

Hey, I'm Michele and I would like to know if specifically for the University of Bath it is possible to change faculty. I have already applied for mathematics (uni offered me a place) but now I want to change faculty from mathematics to politics and international relations. Is it possible? If yes, in which way?

HI Michele,

This is something you would probably have to contact admissions about. You have applied for, and presumably received an offer for, mathematics, based on grades and a personal statement for mathematics. Had you applied for another course, they may still have given you and offer, but they may not have. It may be a case that, based on your grades and if you have the right A-level subjects, they can switch you onto a different course. However, they may not be able to, i.e. if there are no more spaces available on the course, or if they just cannot allow people to switch faculty during the application/offer stage.

I know you can drop out of one course and switch to another at one uni (i.e. I know someone at Bath who started on MechEng, dropped out then started again on Psychology), but I'm not sure if you can switch course when you just have an offer and are not actually at the uni yet. I would advise contact admissions at [email protected] and they should be able to let you know

is woodland court social? they gave me that accom for this year and I’m more so nervous about the social aspect. I really want an accom that’s social
Hi, do students in campus accommodation have to completely clear out their rooms during breaks?
May I ask if there is heating air con in U of Bath accommodation in the winter? I dont want to use the duvet provided and want to buy my own. What kind of duvet I should buy? I saw very warm one with 10 Tog or higher, will those be too warm if there is heating air con inside the accommodation? Ideal is to have 1 duvet fit all seasons. Could any existing students staying at UBath accommodation shred some light? Thanks,

Hey @natalia08paz,

Sorry to hear you are nervous - I remember feeling exactly the same when I was starting uni but just try and remember everybody is in the same boat .

I didn't know anyone who lived in Woodland Court whilst I was a fresher, but most of us applied for it knowing it had the most spacious en-suite rooms. I can see it houses 18-28 students in a flat so I would imagine this will be very social  - try and spend time in your shared space as this will definitely help the social aspect - I spent all my time in the kitchen in first year!

Whilst I made my closest friends in my flat and tended to always go out with them, plenty of others socialised more with their society/sports teams - there are so many opportunities to meet people at uni so don't feel like all hope is lost if you don't gel with your flatmates.

Hope this puts your mind at rest.

Best of luck.

Hey @kyumin2lee,

No, don't worry you won't be expected to clear your room out during Christmas/Easter as you will still be entitled to live here during those breaks if you wish .

Hope this helps.

Hey,

I stayed on campus in Quads accommodation during my first year and had a radiator which I could adjust in my room. You should be able to do the same in any accommodation block so you can find a comfortable room temperature.

The rooms in Quads were small so it didn't take much to heat them but I am a cold person so had a thick duvet all year round. It really depends on your personal preference .

Hope this helps.

Accommodation for MBA students. I will be staying with my wife so please suggest the best option? Would rent an apartment make sense or staying with options available with the university?

Hi there,

There is university managed accommodation available for couples, which you can check out the details for here. There are a variety of options for postgraduates, including a double bedroom, a double studio or a multiple bedroom flat. The good thing about university managed accommodation is all bills are included in the price, the cleaning services included, living with other students and a 24/7 security team.

Your other option is to rent an apartment privately, which can be cheaper than university managed accommodation. Most people find places to live on Rightmove or through using the University of Bath's property search website called StudentPad, which you can access here.

I hope this helps, if you have any more questions please feel free to ask
