General City University Chat

Thought it's be good to get a thread for some general chit chat and informal discussion between the students. Seems like there's quite a few TSR users on here of this years intake so you might find it helpful to have somewhere to discuss things before and even once freshers week starts.

Knowing the new SU president, it's good to see he's stuck to his word and cut out a few of the club nights for some more interesting events. Last year, it was just endless club nights which got tiresome, even for the most hardcore ravers. Not sure how far they're into building the new SU yet.

Also, keep an eye out for City University on University Challenge, they raped Hull Uni to go to the second round

No news yet, Mos?

I just hope LSE get their arses handed to them so we get capital bragging rights \o/
Don't want to start a new thread but do City have a football (and other sports) teams? Am starting at CASS next month and was wondering about this earlier.

Yep, Football, Basketball and Rugby are the main ones. Football one has been very successful in the past two seasons too :yy: Watch for the trials sometime in the first couple of weeks.
Good news, will definitely get down to them. Think I read they have grounds in North London, is that right?

Grounds are in Leyton.

The first day you can move in is when many do.

2. how long does it take to get to the uni. from the finsbury halls( walking) ?

5 minutes max

3. Is St. Pauls cathedral a walking distance? how much? (got friends around there)!!

10-15 mins. Not far away. Definitely walking distance.

oh oh & do we have internet in the halls, whats the speed like??

Yes but you have to pay for it (100 pounds onetime fee). It can be very fast (non-peak) or disgustingly slow and constantly disconnecting you (peak). No p2p filesharing without changing the ports it uses.

If you're a Mac user, then there is actually a way of downloading things. I'd say, get to know people, download stuff for them and charge for it, one guy did this last year, but towards the end. Could easily make a grand.
looooooool! i thought i was going to uni to study! to work hard, get internships/placements during the summer in the capital and come out with a good degree and some actuarial exemptions. but if the first 2 weeks are anything to go by, it looks like the schedule is made by some hard-core clubbers.

partying, clubbing, nightlife is not my thing at all; it certainly isnt the best way to get to know people, at least not decent ones. and im guessing most of the asians are hindus/sikhs/non-religious because that schedule isnt what i had in mind for the last 2 weeks of ramadan! :s-smilie:

At least 50% of the events there have nothing to do with clubbing which I think is more than fair. Especially in comparision to the likes of UCL/QM who seem to be pretty much all clubbing nights. Of course, no one forces you to go to any of these, there will be others like you that aren't into this sort of stuff and will keep the socialising during freshers week mainly in halls and the common room.

Nah, plenty of asians who kept inside halls and the common room during freshers week because of Ramadan IIRC.
Freshers week sounds great but not quite sure how to intergrate with everyone, will be living in Charles Morton Court which is about 15mins from Angel and from what i've been reading is very very dry and doesn't have that many freshers either :frown:
