ucl maths

I just received a maths offer for UCL, if anyone studies there, can you please share your experience? is the course as good as the imperial one for example? are you helped by tutors or are you more on your own? thanks
Hey, I don't study there but have a lot of friends at UCL.

UCL's course can be compared to Cambridge's one. It has Maths, more Maths and hardly anything but Maths. Experience at UCL is going to be comparable to any other UK uni: you oughta do everything through independent work. Yes, tutors may help you from time to time but, really, you have to rely on yourself only.
In contrast, Imperial has a broader range of specialisation for Maths. They are teaching Maths much less intensively that UCL does (some courses that are taken at Y1 at UCL are taught at Y2 at Imperial), but they compensate it with modules in applied maths, computing, finances and etc. That's also why some people consider Imperial's Maths to be easier (I personally do).

If you want to do mathematics only (at least 90% of your time) in London - UCL is your best choice. If you want to diversify your time with some congruent areas to mathematics - Imperial is definitely it.

Ive been seeing comments on tsr saying that the maths department at UCL is pretty crap, and that the teaching is rlly bad. Im torn apart now cos idk whether to pick bristol or ucl for maths?? I wanna stay in london, and ucl is a great uni overall...why am i seeing such comments? But apparemtly the bristol maths is better than that of ucl.

If you have the option between Imperial and UCL, I think Imperial is more prestigious and despite the earlier comment, it is definitely harder than UCL's and you will have much better support. Bristol does have a very good reputation in maths actually (maybe not as strong as UCL though? I think it's quite 50/50 on that specific subject). You should visit in person both departments and have a feel. That's what I would do if I were you.
