Smart and casual? At the same time?

a shirt and jeans? depends on the situation

Normally means smart - shirt and trousers, but no need for a suit/tie. You'd get off with a casual shirt. Depends on the context though.

khaki pants or trousers
a polo shirt tucked in or a button down shirt but no tie
no jacket necessary
no trainers, wear nice shoes

basicly the sort of outfit you would play golf in, but not a suit.

surely the resultant paradox would cause the LHC to turn back on and make a black hole and destroy the world, no?

Don't follow them, dress how you want! Don't be a sheep

I only play golf in full tweed plus-fours, matching tweed cap and diamond-patterned jumper! :yep:

As for smart-casual, it depends on the context. A smart-casual office would probably require a shirt and light trousers (but no tie) for men, whereas a smart-casual party or drinks occasion would probably allow jeans if worn with a smart shirt or jumper. It's a bit vague. Just make sure your shoes are polished and you are well-groomed
Smart casual is easy - shirt, no trainers. Jeans are typically fine.
it varies soo much

sometimes it just means you dont have to wear a tie

othertimes it will mean, non ripped jeans, casual shirt or plain t-shirt, and shoes without holes in.

Lol @ shoes without holes
Its an euphenism for 'I'm a confused mother************ who doesn't know which style to go for so i will go for a blazer and tracksuit bottoms'

all my shoes have holes in!!! i had to buy special ones for work
Only one person has been correct in this thread so far. Smart casual, or Business casual outside of the UK only means one thing - no suit jacket required.

This can only lax sometimes in academia, where jeans might be allowed.
