On the contrary, a dumb useless response would have been to give the sort of response the OP was evidently expecting and tell her that her chances of getting accepted for those courses are x%. Rottcodd's response was sensible, because nobody here can really give people an "assessment" of their chances, no matter how much they'd like to have one, and it's pointless to pretend that we can.
