Ask a student about Winchester School of Art (University of Southampton)

I was wondering how far the halls are from the college and how do you manage to carry your work? Are there lockers?

Hiya, I'm considering going to Winchester college of arts for fashion marketing in 2022. I wanted to ask, is there opportunities/links to do internships during the summers while at university?
Also, I wanted to ask once leaving university is there support given such as links/contacts of businesses to go into successful careers once getting your degree?

I just received an offer letter for MA in Fashion Design at Winchester School of Art. It would be a great help if anyone can give me an insight on his/her experience in the department, opportunities they provide, about the faculty, post-course placement, whether it is better to take up university housing or not, and which one, and any other related information.

Great to hear you have received an offer, we look forward to welcoming you to the University!

Although I can't help much in regards to Fashion Design as I am currently studying BA Fine Art, I can tell you, in most courses they provide opportunities to experience the wider field in fashion design. It might be worth looking at the course prospectus to find out further information and if you have any further questions to email the course leader!

I understand Fashion Design is keen to get students industry ready so includes a lot of opportunities for internships, but also, a lot of industry professionals come in and give talks and advice they have for current students. I would definitely recommend going to these, I know in Fine art I find these interesting as it's great to hear other people’s opportunities they’ve had, and also it may give you an idea of what sort of jobs/ internships sound interesting to you after your uni journey! I’d also recommend interacting with your course leader and other students as much as possible, as you will start to build a network, develop interests further and become more experienced in the realm of Fashion design. Your course leader will give you support on creative CVS, portfolios and how things work after your course!

In terms of housing, we have both Erasmus Park (through the uni) and Riverside Way (Private accommodation but a lot of students rent here!) which are 15 mins from the Winchester Campus. There is also the option of living in Southampton as you can get the shuttle bus or unlink busses from Southampton to WSA campus itself!
