Mlaw (solicitors practice) at ULaw

Does anyone do this course and provide info on it?
I’m conflicted between LLB and MLaw, I want to be a solicitor and the MLaw is the most direct route but I don’t have much info on it. What is the success rate, Do most students end up a qualifying solicitor in employment? How do you get the qualifying experience and do you have to pay for it? Thanks

Hi Ahjjjkkk

The MLaw is a new course for ULaw so there isn't much information statistically about it yet but the main info can be found here: https://www.law.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/law/mlaw-solicitors-practice-four-year-integrated-masters/

If you took the LLB route, you will have to take the SQE afterwards too if you want to become a solicitor.

There's a good map here about the routes into law: https://www.lawcareers.net/Starting-Out/Beginners-Guide-Career-Law/Legal-Career-Paths

But ULaw offer several different course choices if you know you definitely want to become a solicitor, which are listed on the map on this page: https://www.law.ac.uk/study/postgraduate/sqe/ .

Here is some more information on qualifying work experience too: https://www.lawcareers.net/Solicitors/TrainingContract. Normally you get paid whilst you do it. Some providers will also pay for your course if you get a training contract secured before the course. Lots more on that on Lawcareers.net.

However, if you are not 100% sure on whether to become a solicitor or a barrister, then the straight LLB will also allow you to access the Bar Practice Course as well as the SQE.

Hope that helps a bit!
