I have to say it feels good when you take a risk and it pays of, going to Warwick now and not my original uni

Yes and before anyone jumps down my throat and says your crazy for changing universities just for IB, thats not what I did! Yes employment opportunities played a factor but course, campus I also feel are better and more suited to me. I know I still have a long battle to make it into IB but its safe to say im quite happy about the whole thing right now!

I currently set to do Accounting and Financial Management at Lboro - I am okay with this. Somtimes though, I think im going off a more traditional (maths/sciency) course. Engineering suddenly is somthing I am considering. Its also in clearing and I have the requirements - so its like to do or not to do..

Which one would you say is more respected by employers? Also the interest mainly lies within mech/eng/aero engineering - How are these ranked in terms of emploaybility?

Do you think these eng degrees being in clearing while the business schooling having no clearing spaces mean anything meaningful?

Also funnily, Warwick for Eng is in clearing! Its attractive due to the Warwick name, but I guess the course is not very great...

Meh, maybe its just pre-course paranoia - but I think applied maths/physics could be fun!

In my opinion, Engineering is a better course than the course you have applied at Warwick. And yeah engineering can be fun! Heh.

Sometimes its tempting to go back to Economics (I changed from eco to ACC+FIN @ Lboro)- It is my interest! However I thought I should study interests at my own time (so you can learn specialist areas of interest you wished) and do a degree in ACC+FIN to get practical knowledge for jobs regarding finanace... Meh it should be okay.

If you have an interest in Econ/Finance and prove it and hold a reputable engineering degree, that would sound good, no?

Indeed =), but I tried a Maths degree at KCL before and dreaded it - I wonder if those eng courses go too much in mathematical theory..

At KCL I think there's only 3-4 modules, per year, which are quite mathematical (from the name).

There's so much about English Universities here. What do IB&C companies think of the likes of St.Andrews or even Edinburgh?

Thanks x

Ok, its decision time... Economics/Combined Economics at Lboro or stick with my A&F. Comparatives are...

Economics: Its a better degree, I do have solid interest in it
A&F: Department got better ratings then of the Eco departments (according to uni guides), also year in industry to help with jobs in future.

Why do decisions have to be so hard :P.

How is acountantcy and finance at a top 10 univesity viewed by IB's? Will it pigeon-hole someone to simply bean counting?

yep

A-levels of ABBB. Will they hinder me? Should and could I resit two or three modules to boost it to AAA/AAAA or will they find out I resat and reject me?

That is all.

Hello all.

1) i was wondering if someone can tell me whether doing a Management degree (which im scheduled to do) could leave the door open for investment banking and secondly consultancy

2) if i want to get in to these fields which is a better degree to chose business studies or management because ive been agonising about which one is better but can someone with an impartial view tell me which is more respected in real life workplace. ( also in respect to investment banking and consultancy which will be preferable)

3) i got 3As and 1B at A level but didnt do Alevel maths if i were to want to go in to investment banking will it be very diffucult in that respect. Will the door more or less be closed.

4) is Cass Management Bsc both the institution and degree title be respected or is it an average achievement.?

Any help to any of my queries would be greatly appreciated especially question 2 thanks in advance. If you are unsure any contribution to any 1 of the 4 questions will be greatly welcomed . thanks.

For question 4 if anyone is a bit confused Cass is the name of the business school at City university of London and is ranked 2nd in the UK in the Guardian 2008 leaguetable for business related studies.

I just added this to avid confusion.

thanks.
tbh if you got AAAB shouldn't you be aiming a bit higher; Bristol, UCL etc.

CASS is highly ranked but many employers (particularly consultancies) are more traditional and will go for the older unis
If i changed from Economics to PPE @ Warwick, would my chances @ sales get reduced dramatically? Im definetly not going to be applying for any area that involves serious hard core maths so id imagine PPE would be enough? Plus, Warwicks 2nd best place to do PPE after Oxford

comments and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Warwick Economics is a very good launch pad, obviously its Economics/Maths departments are premier at Warwick (as you'll see when you get here there are alot of ****e departments and crap courses) I think diversification of your degree wont prevent you getting as far as you want to go, because PPE is a very good course and in your second year you could specialise in Economics and x. But Economics is probably a little better in terms of the number of potential areas you could end up at a bank.

Also, as far as im aware Warwick Economics can get very mathematical, so I dont think you should necessarily discount trading..unless of course sales is a preferance.
