only through self study so far, but i really only know the basics such as hiragana, katakana etc. wbu??

Having someone knowledgeable teach us will def be helpful, I found Duolingo to make learning the basics really easy.

mmm yeah, i’ve tried quite a few different apps. one that i found really helpful was called “kana drill” that just teaches the 2 alphabets.

as for the basics in grammer, i would say duolingo is quite helpful : D i also watch quite a lot of youtube videos on grammer too!

haven’t really looked much into kanji yet

Kanji isn't difficult inherently but there is just so many of them to memorise that it's gonna take up 80% of our course lmao

Kanji will be interesting lol. As for the youtube videos, as long as you indulge in the language in any capacity then you'll be improving even if it unconsciously
