The Student Room Group

Home fee status clarification.

Hi team,

I've been in UK for 3.5 years and finishing my year 12. My visa status is tier-2 dependant. The time for ILR will be in 6 months after I finish my A-levels.

I understand that I cannot get student loan until I get ILR. From the other side I am not sure about the reduced Home student fee. Can I be classified as a home student in this circumstances or should wait for ILR and take a year gap?

Hi there, can you confirm your status in the UK and your nationality. When are you also looking to start your course? Thanks, Jason

I am really sorry with the long delay. I am still on dependant visa but my parent (father) got ILR. The nationality is Russian. As I understand, based on UKCISA guidelines (https://www.ukcisa.org.uk/Information--Advice/Fees-and-Money/England-HE-fee-status), I can be eligible for Home Student fee.

Another question is about "tuition fee funding", as I understand from https://www.gov.uk/student-finance/who-qualifies:

You may also be eligible for tuition fee funding if either of the following apply to you:

you’ve lived in Gibraltar or the other British Overseas Territories

you’re the family member of a person with settled status and you’ve lived in the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man for 3 years in a row before the first day of the first academic year of your course

Could somebody confirm both?

Hi there,

Just to clarify, when you say Home Student fee, are you asking in terms of how much your university will charge you per year? As in, will they charge you the normal £9,250 rate or more?

Thanks, Graeme

Hi Baka1977,

You would need to hold indefinite leave to remain to be eligible for SFE support as a home student. If you are referring to the costs of the course, you need to contact your university regarding this.

Thanks, Clare
