What does it mean if a guy suggests that I (female) dates younger guys?

Does it mean he thinks I’m not attractive enough to date older guys and/or higher calibre? Or does it suggest he thinks I’m the type to wear the pants in a relationship. (I am 20 btw)

Id say he could think you are perhaps too immature and thus a better fit maturity wise for someone your age or younger. Judging from your last comment about wearing i hope "the trousers", maybe he thinks you are too bossy and would suit a younger more impressionable person.

The guy is the same age as me and he’s not necessarily telling me to date, just that he had the impression I would go for younger guys. I’m just wondering why that’s the case.
