Durham, Sheffield, Manchester and York

Hi guys,
I’ve just received offers for BA Geography from Durham (ABB), Sheffield (AAB), Manchester (ABB) and York (BBB). I am going to put York as my insurance but i’m unsure which uni to firm. Any advice would be helpful! Manchester is the closest uni to me but that doesn’t put me off from going far away i.e to Durham.

Look at the individual courses carefully - all Geog courses are different and each Uni has different specialisms.
This is important. It doesnt matter how nice Uni is if you don't actually enjoy what you are studying.

In particular, look at the optional units in the 2nd/3rd years etc. Which ones would you choose if you went to that Uni? Tip - if your search on the Uni and course name and "course catalogue" you can usually find far more detailed unit information than is actually on the course page.

Hi, My predicted grades were AAB and I got offered ABB from Durham! I have picked it as my firm choice and put York as my insurance. Are you doing BA or BSc?

Hii! I am going for Geography BA and my predicted grades are A*AA but due to how competitive Durham is in general, I am worried I won't get an offer as I know its really good for geography.

You have five choices and should apply anyway.

I’m sure you’ll get an offer! Those are really good predicted grades and if I got in with AAB then i’m sure you will too. Don’t stress! I applied for BA too.

Ohh Right! Because on the website I saw that the typical offer was A*AA, So I was a bit worried about what grades I needed.

Hi,

When you are picking between universities it is a personal choice and someone else might make a different choice and that is fine.
Have you been to visit the uni's in person, either at an open day or just visiting the city?
If you have did you feel you could live and study in that area?
Some of the things people consider is the accommodation, public transport, living costs, location of the uni. All of these things you may value differently to someone else.
I chose to study in Sheffield because it was very close to the peak district but still had the felling of being in a city.
I also liked the distance from my parents house as it is close enough I can easily get home for reading weeks and holidays but not too close I want to go home every weekend. This is something that will be impacted by where you currently are and not the university or city you are looking at.
Another things is to check the course and the modules choices (including 2nd and 3rd year) and see if you prefer the choice more at one over the other.
It is a hard decision because you have applied to Uni's you liked and know have to pick but you don't have to rush, so take some time to think about it.
University of Sheffield does also have a chat to us function on the website so you can talk to a current student or you can ask on here, if you have any more questions.
