does choosing a popular NEA topic affect anything?

for my (aqa english literature) nea i was considering writing something about the representation of women but it seems like that's a popular choice so i'm curious if i would be at a disadvantage for choosing it. like if too many people choose one topic then would the examiners standard become higher? or is there no difference?

It's internally marked by your teacher so it's unlikely that it would be seen by an official AQA examiner unless your piece was chosen to be moderated. I don't think there would be any drawback to doing a popular question as its the content of your answer that matters regardless of the popularity. Hope this helps
