Unis want to see two things. The first is that you understand the role of the radiographer and the second is that you have experience of dealing with the general public.

Over the past few years (post Covid) it has been difficult to get shadowing experience in healthcare settings. Unis are aware of this but still try to arrange a day/half a day of shadowing experience in a radiography department. If you are not successful through formal channels, use any contacts you have who work in healthcare. There are also 'A day in the life of a diagnostic radiographer' videos on Youtube that are worth watching so that you understand the role.

You will also need public-facing work or volunteering experience. Anything will do - eg charity shop volunteer, retail, bar/restaurant/cafe work, care home. Unis will interview you as part of the application process and it is likey that they will ask you how you dealt with/reacted to certain situations.

To prepare for uni interviews, you will need to be aware of the NHS values and 6 Cs of care:

your amazing, thank you miss. I've skimmed through the links provided, and they're definitely proven to be helpful! Ive done work experience at a primary school, more specifically at the nursery section catering for the children and ive gained experience in understanding the children and applying the teachers advice daily during my stay there. However, as well as dealing with children i would like to get some experience with different age groups including adults and the elderly. Thank you for informing me about the work experience,i thought you'd have to exclusively do work related to radiography. That definitely helped me out, Good day!
