I am in the same place, yet am only 17 and everywhere i have applied to require you to be 18. Any advice? I really want to do something worthwhile or at least earn money, but everything I want to do does not seem to work out.

I'm looking to go abroad this summer and trying to hunt out companies who organise gap/summer projects overseas. So far I've got Teaching and Projects Abroad, Madventurer and BUNAC. Can anyone point me in the direction of any others?

just go to the website, www.gapyear.com

this has loads of companies listed and you can search in various different ways. for example if you have a particular country in mind, you can just see if there are any company who specialise for that country!

hope that helps

Probably not as thorough as the website mentioned above but you might find something from http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/about/community/volunteers/projects/summer/overseas/ It's a page made by Warwick Volunteers (the volunteering society at Warwick uni surprisingly enough!) and has got a list of quite a few places which do overseas volunteering things over the summer. Worth a look for some ideas maybe.

You need to ask yourself what you want to do! Are you prepared to volunteer or do you need to earn at least SOMETHING? Would you want to go with a religious-based organisation or something completely different? Do you want to work with kids in the USA, or would you be happier building houses in Uganda?

There are a massive number of things...and yeah I guess you need to figure out what there IS before you can decide what you want to do, but now that it's April I think you really need to start applying to things. I know for Camp America it'll be nearing the latest date, as you need to get an American J-1 Visa (which is a bit of a nuisance) AND a Crimial Record Disclosure!

The reason that you have to be 18 for most of it will be all due to getting Visas for certain places...it's a bugger for some people I know!

(Also, if you want some advice...do a Camp America thing - go with BUNAC or CCUSA - best thing I ever did!)
