Congratulations hon.

Fantastic news mate.

Yes please!

I should point out that they aren't shortlisting this year, so are interviewing everyone who meets longlisting criteria, though as with UKFPO you aren't guaranteed an interview in your first choice. So it's not as impressive as it would otherwise sound, and the competition is still going to be tough, but I'm pleased I got my first choice deanery at least.

I'm being really cheeky here but would one of you mind sharing those notes with me please? (I know applications aren't til the end of the year, just trying to be super prepared!)

I feel like the only F1 who doesn't know what specialty they want to do. I still think its too soon and I want more time to figure it out! Unfortunately I can't go abroad for a year due to family stuff, and its stressing me out :frown:. I just want to get better at being a doctor instead of this endless game (portfolio) ****.

You can still stay in this country and not apply for specialist training - there are research jobs, non-training jobs in lots of different specialties or you could just have some relaxing time and take locum jobs as and when needed. I know a few people who have done this.

I would, but my hard drive died and it's saved somewhere on there. :frown: I've got a backup but haven't reinstalled it yet; if one of the others doesn't get it to you then I'll try!
So, this is where I'm supposed to be working for CT2... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-18584968

I picked a scheme without A&E jobs in my year. :yep: But next is O&G which is the other nightmare, apparently.

Yeah, we have a slightly complex matching process - same number of Trainers as number of Trainees, they all come & do presentations, we have something like 5 weeks to visit Trainers/Practices we're interested in (which felt a bit like an informal interview), then we rank our top 3 Trainers, they rank their top 3 Trainees & then they 'match' with higher weight to the Trainees' ranking.

I liked it this way (but then it worked out for me - I think something like of 7 of us 1 person got somewhere outside their top 3, 1 got 3rd choice & 5 got 1st or 2nd) as it's a whole really important year of job & places are different (though like with medical schools knowing what 'best' or what would suit you most is another much trickier question! ) so nice to feel you might have some influence over the process.

I wish I had got more say (or to be honest even some say) over what my rotations were going to be. I didn't get any say.

Obs and gynae isn't too bad from my experience in F2 not my sort of thing in terms of the surgical side of things but not awful

Terribly sorry but I don't have them on my current computer (and the old one is dead in the water.)
There's a fair amount of info to be found if you trawl through the West Midlands Deanery website (markschemes etc.) which will be of use.

Fair enough

I've been having a good look through that website today actually and printed off a couple of bits like the self scoring thing (where my score is very low!) and the portfolio info etc.
Yeah the self-scoring is a bit odd, ambiguous in places, and fails to reward certain achievements. There's still time to get more points. Things like MRCP Part 1 gain you comparatively more points than say an extra audit project, but even they are better than nothing.

Ouch, £380 for 6 months MDU working 3 days a week. Here's hoping the PCT refunds it or time to get my tax affairs in order!

1 month to go til ICU :teeth: (I'm deliberately ignoring the fact that I will then be an FY2  and focussing on the fact I'll no longer be a surgical F1 )

Mine (once chased) were superquick - first month's pay packet.

Currently having a little personal politics/duty to society v. 'advocating' for patients conflict. ::banghead:

The BNF? what's that? Unless it is IV contrast I'm not interested!
