The campus is nice and the university is great.

I'm not sure about the Geography department, I study under POLIS and Sociology.

Does the campus feel like part of the city or is it more self contained? Is it green, or can you tell you're right in the middle of the city? What's the university like for employability? Do they help you to find placements, etc?
Do you know anyone who studies geography who would know what the department is like?
Sorry for all the questions! Thanks for your help!

It's not far from the city centre. It's not in the middle of the city.

The university has a careers centre and career fairs, so there is a lot of information and support for careers and the uni has good employability rates, though this will obviously vary between subjects.

Sorry I don't know anyone who studies Geography.

Lupton is quite nice, and it's quite cheap (it also has en-suite I think), but it is in Headingley, and it can take ages to walk from the accommodation to university (I think 30 minutes.)

I'm not too bothered about the distance, I think it's worth it since it's so cheap. I'm mainly worried in case I'm in a flat with people who didn't want to be at Lupton and hate it haha

I lived in Montague Burton in the previous academic year and most people I knew didn't put Montague Burton down as their first choice. They came to like it though, so some people get used to it.

If the people don't want to be at an accommodation, then they could always 'swap', or contact the accommodation office to place them somewhere else.

The surrounding area is not that great but don't worry - you are not far from the main road/university, and many students walk too and from the accommodations. MB is r secure. Also, you are not far from town, but don't take shortcuts.

Montague Burton is 7 minutes walk away from the Parkinson building (main/front part of campus), and 20 minutes walk away from the city centre. You wouldn't need to catch a bus from there to get to university, there is no point. If you want to get a bus to get somewhere then take a bus from the bus stops outside the university.

I believe the accommodation is of really good quality. It's really really nice and I think it is reasonably priced.

I'd say there is a mix of undergrads and international students. I am not sure about postgrads sorry.

I admit when I applied to live in university accommodation, Montague Burton was my first choice. I was torn between MB and Leodis. I wanted to live somewhere that was within walking distance of the university. Plus, I didn't want to live somewhere far or too expensive. However, most people I know didn't put MB down as their first choice. Students are more likely to apply for Central Village, Henry Price, James Bailey or Charles Morris.

I wasn't the original poster but thank you for this post!!:smile::smile::smile: I've put MB down as my firm because it was close, relatively cheap and seemed to have a really nice vibe, but I was feeling kind of worried as almost no one posts about it here on TSR. Do you think it's safe enough to walk there at night (around 9) or would you have to take a taxi to get home safely?

I would suggest that when it gets dark then get a taxi, or walk with a group of people (this is what I used to do.)

Thank you! My thoughts are pretty much similar to the other poster who's considering putting MB as first choice. It's got good ~vibes and I was really curious as to why it's less popular then places like James Baille, which is further away from campus. So thanks again for the really helpful info.
Question about North Hill residences. The photos provided here show quite a big difference between room sizes. I mean, some of these have double full-length windows with a small balcony outside, while others look around the same size as the average standard room of other residences. Is it completely random who gets what room? whats the ratio of big rooms to small? Any info would be much appreciated.
Well after much deliberation; I chose Central Village. I chose it for quite a few reasons, but one of those is that I intend to carry on working weekends whilst at Uni and so I wanted something close to the centre and the station. It's also about a 5 minute walk from the Sociology faculty so perhaps that is what decided it for me, haha. Has anyone been offered their contracts yet or do we really have to wait until mid-july to find out? After spending time looking at all the pictures I think I would be really gutted now if I didn't get it.
