What is a "high" first class degree?

I was just checking the University of Oxford's website and more specifically I was having a look at the Clarendon Scholarship. In the selection criteria, it said that applicants should be expecting a high first class.

That will depend on your course and your university. There will be some courses where a high first might be around 72%, others where it might mean scoring comfortably over 80%. I agree with the advice you've been given in another thread that you need to look at what the top few percent of your cohort could be expected to achieve. You might find this in previous examiners' reports. If not, try to find out from one of your lecturers or course supervisor.
