conditional offer question

if you have a conditional offer for sixth form and they want five A*-C and you don't get them can they still accept you for a level course you want to do and can they force you to do subjects you don't want to do ????

They might accept you if they liked you in interviews, or your school sixth form might accept you based on their experience of you as a hard worker, but they could ask you to do different courses if your grades show the work load of A Levels isn't right for you, or that you would struggle to catch up for an A Level (e.g. you want to take A Level maths, but you get a C in maths and they're asking for a B, it would be difficult to do well in A Level maths following a C in GCSE maths so they likely wouldn't let you on the course). It's all on a case-to-case basis, so it's difficult to say for certain what they would do because there are so many variable factors, but, yes, they can make exceptions

1. They have discretion. The offer is just their way of saying if you meex the standard they will take you. If you dont meet the grade then they mau consider you, but they arent bound to take you. Five GCSE's is pretty standard or low.

2. They cnat force you to do any course you dont want to do. They can refuse to admit you to 6th form or to select you for that course.
Depending on the place they can be lenient(from the experience of people ive known, sixth forms arent usually very lenient) they may still accept based on qualities other than grades (my old sixthform college did) however they do expect you to do well in alevels (mine didnt enter students in exams if they predicted the student wouldnt do well in the exam). Sometimes they can force students to do things they dont want but its usually english/math gcse retakes. I had a friend who didnt have the grade to do a level history and she got stuck doing an alevel she didnt want to do because she had to decide quickly and didnt really know what to choose out of the options they offered her. But if youre expecting A*-C in all your subjects you should be okay

tbh if you can't manage 5 Cs at GCSE you're going to struggle with A-levels...
