Internship visa - J1 application
I just found a supervisor for a summer internship in California but was told I would need to apply for a J1 through a 'third-party' organisation which places students and cooperates with the US DOS. As an example there is the American Council on International Personnel.
I just looked at the ACIP website and downloaded an app form and it asks for a lot of money (over $1,000). Are people normally expected to pay this from their own pockets or would the organisation hosting the internship cover this? Are there any cheaper ways to get it than this?
