Interview Presentation

I have an interview at UWE on Wednesday, and have to give a presentation on one of the 5 outcomes of the Every Child Matters approach. I've chosen 'Be Healthy' and have already made my A3 poster but I also need to:

"Make reference to your experience of obvserving and working with children and teachers and suggest ways in which the Every Child Matters agenda is important to the primary classroom teacher"

I wondered if anyone could help me? As in, are any of you doing work experience in a primary school? How have teachers tried to incorporate the 'be healthy' aspect? Do they have to do PE lessons? Do they have to eat healthily? Any info would be much appreciated! I've done experiece in schools but as I'm still in sixth form, I don't have a lot of time to go in!

Thankyouu x

I don't mind answering your questions  It went alright I think, the literacy task was quite hard though I though. I'd just make sure you've done some good work experience because you really need to link that in to the questions they ask you in the literacy task. The presentation but was fine, you're in groups of about 5 along with 2 interviewers who work in partner schools, are tutors etc. You do your presentation and then they just ask you questions like 'have you tried that technique out?' 'where did you come up with that idea' that sort of thing - it's not scary at all. You don't have an individual interview so they just ask you personal-ish questions during the group one. They said things like 'did anyone inspire you to become a teacher?' 'why do you want to be a teacher?' The usual questions you'd expect really! Hope that's helped you a bit, let me know if you need anymore questions answering! I'm happy to help. What are you doing your presentation on? And good luck with it

thank you soo much!! I'm doing my presentation on Be Healthy.. you know there's 5 areas of the Be Healthy outcome (physically, mentally/emotionally, sexually, healthy lifestyles and choosing not to take illegal drugs) do you know if they all need to be related to just primary schools i.e. the age group that we'd be choosing for the course? because in the task for the presentation it says that we should mainly focus on how the outcome is related to primary education, but certain areas of the Be Healthy outcome are more related to secondary schools, such as the choosing not to take illegal drugs and being sexually healthy.. should i ignore these areas, or try to relate them to primary schools? because thats one thing I've been a bit confused about..!
Well in the primary school I was at they had a lesson making up their own sandwiches bringing healthy ingredients in and then picking what they wanted to include! which was kind of encouraging them to eat healthily! and be imaginative with their fillings!!!

Hmm I would say probably try and relate it to primary schools, and if you're doing work experience, then you could try to mention some of the things they're doing there to increase awareness about being healthy? Cos that's the one I chose to do as well, so I talked about what my local primary school are doing about being more healthy. Soo things like um they have 'fruit time' and their PE lessons are taken my professionals..stuff like that. So yeah, if you can, just speak to a primary teacher and ask them if the school is doing anything about being healthy  And I didn't talk about all areas of the be healthy bit, I did about mental and physical mostly because they're the 2 that I thought linked better with primary schools
