Is this a joke?

Not at all. Especially when considering the likes of Liverpool are suggested in this thread - a club privatised and sold to overseas investors. With that comes an essence of irony considering Thatcher endorsed radical privisation that affected the population of the North, particularly in the North West.

So in answer to your question, No.

But with regards to the fanbase. Yes.

St. Pauli, sure. Even St. Pauli (the district of Hamburg) is very left-wing. Spent some good days there and I proudly sport my tshirt

As a whole support, Sankt Pauli would be the obvious answer. Aside from them, some clubs have groups associated with groups like Alerta - Livorno, Celtic, Omonia Nicosia etc.

As tittle asks, which European football club do you think has the most left-wing/socialist fan-base?

St pauli, st pauli! St pauli, st pauli! St pauli!

It's fair enough if you want to point out typos but you could at least also make some attempt to address the topic of the thread.

Is St Pauli left-wing because Hamburg is associated with neo-nazis?

No. It is because it is considered to be Anti Fascist and etc.
Two posts above in comes the rangers fan and posts a facist salute. Typical.

In Israel as well.

Why would they be left wing, if Hamburg were associated with Neo-Nazis?

You can't walk around Hamburg without seeing "Gegen Nazis" everywhere...

Stranger things have happened! Keep the faith and with a little luck you never know with football.

Bit old thread but...

I agree: St.Pauli, Celtic and Livorno are strongly and clearly left-wing teams.

I wouldn't be so sure about Liverpool and I don't know anything about Hapoel Tel Aviv or Omonia Nicosia.

Barcelona is not left-wing; is a nationalist team. Catalonian nationalism is fueled by conservative upper-middle class (like the currently ruling party) and so is Barcelona. Believe me: not a trace of socialism or left-wing politics in their fanbase or inside the club.

In Spain, Rayo Vallecano got an incredibly strong far left-wing fanbase and the whole club is related to that (except the managers, of course). Sevilla, Celta and Cádiz got huge left-wing fanbases too, but they're not so dominant as in the rest of the teams we've talked about.
If we take left-wing to mean a 'working' background, not Spurs. Founded by a church cricket team. Arsenal's origins are definitely more working class than ours. As Islington gentrified (and Tottenham didn't), the predominant 'class' of the fanbase switched over somewhat though. I read the other day about 'middle class' trends in the Times, and was surprised to see "Arsenal FC" mentioned; the Emirates apparently being somewhere you find fathers with baby carriers. I hate to think what an Arsenal fan of the 70s or 80s would have thought on seeing that.
I'd probobly say Schalke

i would add bohemians 1905 from prague to those mentioned but st. pauli are typical and they never ever had any problems with far right within their fan base as the other mentioned used to have or still have some.
