Is the University of Huddersfield seen as prestigious?

I seem to be getting mixed opinions on Huddersfield. People either say it's good or they just go 'mmmmmm' but don't give a reason as to why they're 'mmmm'ing about it.

In your opinion, is it seen to be prestigious?
Hull is seen to be fairly prestigious and asks for the same/similar entry requirements as Huddersfield.

It won't really change my opinion of it, I'd just like to know what others think.
If you're going to say it's bad (or good) then give a reason why. I'm just curious.

Let's see how this end.
Thanks

and I've been negged because I've asked a question.
Wow, because that's not what TSR's purpose is. :ahee:

According to the Guardian's league table for English it is 31.

Higher than Nottingham and Sheffield.

It's also rated 54 in the ordinary league tables

As an ex-poly it isn't prestigious but I personally really enjoy it there. I'm actually in my 1st year of English Lit  If you want to know anything feel free to ask

Yeah, silly for me to ask on here actually because if it's not Oxbridge or any other red brick they're labeled as rubbish. I knew that people wouldn't give a reason if they were to say that it wasn't.

and thank you  I probably will do because if i don't get accepted at YSJ then i MIGHT be going to Huddersfield  Doing English Language though.

Bear in mind that this is the same table that didn't even put Manchester in the top 50, even though it's more-or-less in the top 50 Universities in the world.

If you're going to look at a newspaper league table, refer to The Times. At least there's some degree of truth and logic within that table.

Hudds isn't one of the best Unis in the UK, no - but it has its strengths, and there are definitely far worse universities...

True, then again, i WAS asking my parents...who have never been to university and they think that the only good universities in the UK are Oxford and Cambridge.

I think that they're just trying to put me off so i go to york instead (which has the better course for me as well)

I'm just wondering, not many people seem to have opinions on it. Thought TSR would help a bit and give me an idea on what it's reputation is like.

Thats utter bull**** though. You, along with almost everyone would rather go to Sheffield and Nottingham.

My ex boyfriend goes to Huddersfield. It is not a good university - he got CDE in his A-levels and still got in. Can't be very prestigious.

I was refering mostly to the subject league table as I am applying for English Language.

The Times doesn't have one. Just an overall league table.

Oh definitely
But sadly I did pretty naff in my A levels, so I'll have to make do with whichever universities i can get into. Doesn't really matter if I could get into them anyway. I looked at their courses and they don't even offer a work placement for the course that I'm applying for, so I'd probably not end up going there anyway cause the course isn't what I want.

The Guardian subject tables put Staffordshire above Durham for geography... not to be trusted :P

In any case, the Times do have subject tables, which tend to be reasonably accurate - much unlike every aspect of the Guardian league tables.

I know somebody who got into UCL lower grades and a pass in a foundation diploma in art and design who went to the same college as me. Just shows that you don't have to be smart a**es to get into a prestigious university.

Haha  Well...

Where are The Times subject tables? I've never seen them  or I can't find them, at least.

It is a rapidly improving university, but I wouldn't say it holds much prestige. But you shouldn't let that matter to you too much, it's where you feel most happy going. Have you been to visit it? I went last week to visit one of my friends who goes there and he is really happy there (he's doing Music Production). The town and the "nice" parts are really pleasant and the train journey there goes through the Pennines which are beautiful.
It depends what you go for really.
My boyfriend's in his first year of Music Technology and Popular Music and chose Huddersfield over much more well known universities as it had the best music recording facilities and equipment.
Huddersfield is prestigous in the same way that Babybell chedder is the finest French Cheese!
