Going to SOAS in 2012? Get to know!!

Okay. So I'm (hopefully) going to SOAS in September, and I'd really like to get an idea on who's going and/or studying my course etc. I already have quite a few people on Facebook and it's been really good to get to know people, a few have actually become quite good friends!

As for me I've chose Japanese and Politics as my firm and Japanese and Religious Studies as my insurance. I like socialising, so naturally the rumours that SOASians have no life; live in the library; smoke weed 24/7; eat veggie curry ( when I like STEAK because i'm a LAD); are always stressed and are as cliquey as mean girls makes me shudder. Especially the going out bit, god knows I like my amaretto and coke, GOD KNOWS.

So yeah, what's your name, where are you from, what're you studying, and just a bit about anything you want to do at SOAS? I'd like to start a band maybe. A normal band not a leftist, socialist pushing, all-acoustic band fighting for the legalisation of weed etc. Although I wouldnt object to joining such a band!

we live in the library when close to exams or due assignments.
I've yet to find a person who is vegetarian
I see ppl smoking weed- but it usually is during fresher's week
the girls are nice (60:40 ratio); you should not have too much of a problem (then there is UCL, ect. )
there are music societies

I already have you on facebook! I'm probably the (future) SOAS stereotype you're worried about! Identifying as an Individualist Anarchist, Vegan, partial to a spliff (also a drink, but I go better with the former). I can function in normal social circles though, and don't introduce myself with "No war but class war!". I'll also be studying Politics at SOAS, so we'll be in some of the same classes, I look forward to meeting you come September!

Do we have a Facebook group yet, for the Freshers 2012?

Edit: Why was I down-rated for this comment?

Hey there  I should also be starting Politics and Arabic this autumn, as long as my exams go as planned. Glad to see so many Politics undergrads
Lol, good luck to you all..

Hi there, I'll start International Politics this fall...

Anyone keen on hanging out from the beginning of Sept. ? Also, any tips for a studio/flat under 400 per month in the Camden town area ?

Thanks a lot,

Hello

I have accepted an offer to study South East Asian Studies in September. I don't suppose anyone else here is?

My particular area of interest is Cambodia.

I'll be studying Japanese in September! I've applied for dinwiddy, but if I don't get a place I'll be looking for a flatshare.

I'm really not sure which one is the right one, or perhaps both are  Yours seem to have a bit more activity in it though.

Maybe more activity but less members  I'll be joining both, maybe they'll become more active once everyone's done with their exams.

It's been quite quiet in general here at the SOAS forums and the groups if you compare with other schools

Camden is surprisingly expensive, I live in Camden.......probably have to large shared house and somewhere decent, you might have to look towards holloway or kentish town....they should have a direct bus link to Russell square.

Yeah, I've noticed :frown: It's a pity, I would've liked to get a feel of how SOAS is really like and maybe to get to talk to a few freshers as well. Guess all I can do is keep my fingers crossed for my exams so I'll have the chance to meet them in person this autumn

Nah, I'll keep my optimism and believe that the SOAS community kicks ass. Are you a future undergrad, btw?

Let's hope!
I am indeed, even if I'm probably a bit older than most. I've been working for the last couple of years until I decided that I wanted to go back to school to get my degree

Yeah, this forum is really quiet this year! Even the Facebook groups/pages are quiet. :frown:

Anyway, I'm Diane. I'm from Scotland and I'll be studying Korean.
