Univ of Manchester MSc Adv. CS details.

I'll be an international student for MSc Advanced Comp Science this Sept. I'd like to more specific details about the course, like the syllabus, the course structure, class schedules, exam schedules, class work, project work, etc... In short everything.

I've searched the CS dept website, but they only let us know the subjects we're going to study and nothing more. If any past of present students can help me, it would be great. thanks.

This is pretty specialist stuff, and I'm not aware of any UoM CS students on here unfortunately.

I think the best thing to do would be to email the department.

However, there are some things they probably won't be able to tell you yet - for instance, exam timetables aren't published until about 6 weeks before you take the exams.

At the start of the 1st semester, you will be asked to select two themes that contains 3 course units respectively, such as semantic web, logics and ontology etc. So what you need to complete are the six course units and the final project during your MSc days. The course units are detailed in the cs website, I think, for both of the courseworks and exams. The project topic will be allowed to be chosen by you in Feb and dissertation will be asked to submit in Sep. And for my opinion, it is quite an intensive and tough
work for international student to complete but anyway, best wishes for you. Hope this helps.

Probably there will be a change to the study programme..the website contains mixed information...but it seems that, starting in 2012-13, each theme will contain 2 course units and you will have to choose 3 themes instead of 2.

Also, some courses from last year have been removed, for example "Building web applications", "Computer Graphics and Animation" which is rather disappointing since i dont see any replacements.

Sorry I didnt notice the change. But I have taken the course unit Building web applications and from my view, just for the tutors, Caro and Andy are very nice and helpful, arent they? haha

Sorry for the late reply. Actually I have graduated from the uni. but maybe, hopefully, will pursue the PhD in the next couple of years.
