UCL is fine for engineering. I've heard people on this forum say that its building isn't the nicest place, but whatever.

The reason some say that UCL is "bad" for engineering is because if you think that because it's a "target" for investment banking that this actually means anything for engineering or it's going to help get you a nice job you're wrong.

what do you mean?

i think he is confused

obviously if ib has in campus events at your uni then that will drastically increase your chances for a job at ib, whether that be front middle r back office

Hi. I am interested in applying to this course too. Have you submitted your UCAS??

No, I'm currently Yr12 so 2014 entry, if you are, be sure to tell me how it goes!

Quick update... For QS University rankings UCL is now 4th in the world, Engineering & technology ranked 44th in the world! (lowest of all its departments)

Not only is Southampton better than Cambridge for engineering but it has lower entry requirements they want AAA for most of their masters course as opposed to A*AA from Cambridge plus the extra stuff u gotta do to get In like interviews and tests and high ums scores! Cambridge is overated in my opinion

theres no point in arguing if you havent even started your degree yet

Camb/ox is the best, it offers opportunities sothampton students could never dream of, ie alot of consulting companies, and finance, unlike southampton

What about someone actually interested in engineering, that stuff isn't really important

I'm currently a mech eng ucl student and my experience so far has been really bad. The department has a mixture of really bad and good lecturers. If your first is like me, you will get more bad than the good one and that will make you struggle a lot

apart from how the course is taught and the lecturers, what sort good leisure activities are available to partake in?
Now I thought of firming it. Now otherwise. Some doubt is no good

Hi I was wondering whether UCL is as bad as it looks on Uni ranking websites overall UCL is good but apparently its worse at engineering than its overall score, Is this really correct?
Because I'm thinking of applying for Electronic Engineering & Computer Science there....

UCL isn't bad for anything. You can do Viking Studies at UCL and still look like a boss!

It's not one the best for engineering, from my understanding.

every university in the country has these sort of 'leisure activities', don't worry.

Viking Studies at UCL is essentially just a History degree focusing on a specific area.

Though of course I'm exaggerating. I don't think it would look amazing on your CV. Though the fact that you studied at UCL can swing things in your favour.

Different rankings for example...

The QS world University Rankings UCL is 7th yet in engineering and technology its ranked 47th in the world!

Southampton is rated 1st for Electronic Engineering in UK league tables but you can't even see it in QS world rankings... It is quite reputable with employers as well (im doing a yini)
So... QS world rankings aren't reliable. However, UCL is good for engineering (specially civil), it's just not great
I had an offer from UCL for civil engineering. When I went to the open days/applicant days, the people there didn't seem very enthusiastic about engineering. I've also had advice from undergraduates there as well as word of mouth that the department just isn't that great. I don't have specific reasons, but it has to make you wonder where all the negative comments are coming from with very few positive ones.
