The Student Room Group

I really really Hate football but everywhere I go it's just there

I hate football to the extreme.
A group of grown men kicking a football around a pitch surrounded by a group of foul mouthed drunken fighting yobs does not entertain me at all.

When football comes to my mind I think of 4 things

. Chavs
. pissheads
. violence
.yobbery

It's just everywhere I go all I hear people talk about is football and it really depresses me and bores me to death

I can understand why you don't like it - I certainly don't - but it's really not everywhere. It's easier to feel like you see it a lot if you dislike it, and sometimes it really is just a matter of gritting your teeth and bearing it, but you don't need to get upset by it. It's a popular thing. Just enjoy the moments when you're footie-free and ignore the ones when you're not.
Football. ****ing football. Imagine not being into it. Those poor, poor half alive bastards.

The good news for the OP is the Premier League season has just finished.

The bad news for the OP is WORLD CUP YEAR.
Sounds more like you're a snob than a football-hater tbh...

i'm with you dude, i really hate football too... i'm kind of the odd one out in my ENTIRE family

but i think you're generalising a bit too much here
The way you feel about football is the way I feel about feminism and homosexuality.

It's just everywhere now.
I can understand that some people may not be into football so much, but those who throw around generalised, ignorant comments disgust me. I would go as far to say that <0.05% of football fans are 'yobs' as you say.

for violent football fans? don't think so!
Like most sport it is much more entertaining if you actually care who wins - some of the most exciting games I ever watched were when family was playing.

As for the professional game, it can be quite dull, more so if its not your team playing.

i'm not a chav, a pisshead, violent or a yob, yet i like football. It's exciting and well is fun.

I don't get why I can't watch games because you cannot cope with your society......

You have a very wrong view... Most football fans are just normal people...stop living in the 80s times have changed.

Also...you stereotype football fans....I'll therefore do the same to you. All non football fans are 2 uptight, serious and boring, oh and very feminine (sorry to you girls that love football I know there is a lot of you)

Out-of-touch and snobbish, you sound like Thatcher. No-one's forcing you to like football but your sanctimony isn't necessary.

It's not sexist, it's meritocratic. I watched England Womens v Ukraine Womens on the BBC the other day - i.e. the very top tier of Women's football in the UK. The standard of play was roughly on a par with Altrincham Football Club who this season were playing in the 6th tier of UK football.

The bottom line is that in the UK and generally around the world, men are better than women at football. Are the reasons why they're better sexist? Quite possibly so - disproportionate allocation of resources and socialisation/expectation that people will adhere to gender roles play their part.

Is the way football is broadcast sexist? No. As far as the people who enjoy watching football are concerned, men's football is of a higher standard and is more enjoyable to watch. Therefore, there's more of it.
