Child's is brill. Don't listen to the crap you hear about it, it rules. Although the food is absolutely rank. That's a bit of a downside.

All first years will get a choice of which halls they want to go to. Only a few are reserved for mature, international, 2nd/3rd years, such as Sherifield.

You should choose St patricks, its the best! I personally really like St pats (hence i live there). Rooms are a good size, nice food, and nice meal times. Our meals times are about 1hr and 30mins and 2hrs for dinner. Most halls only allow 30mins -45mins meal time. It is a bit of a walk compare to some other halls but after a while you get use to it and its not that bad. There's corner shops really close so good place to buy some pasta and pizza etc for sat and sunday evening meals.

Downfall - tiny bar! really really tiny. And a crap JCR but everyone just goes to sherfields which is like 1min walk.

I'm in Bridges, and although it seems like a shoddy place, so long as you keep it cleanish you'll be fine. Personally its all about the socialising, and in a corridor with 25 other people that works well. By the way, Bridges has exactly the same layout as Childs.
Of course, you're main aim when looking at accomodation is the amount you're willing to spare. I believe that the nicer places, such as st pats are a little more expensive.

Lol, I looked round St. Pats on the open day and the JCR made me laugh, quite a large wooden room with a 10 inch telly lmao!
Bulmershe rocks! You get your own en-suite. On the downside, it is slightly more expensive compared with other halls, however, it's self-catered so you get to choose what to eat and when to eat. The halls have a nice friendly atmosphere as the campus is a lot smaller compared with Whiteknights.

It's a 30-minute trek from Bulmershe to Whiteknights, however, in the evenings there is a free night bus which takes you to whiteknights and back again

The thing is people have their own opinion, people living in childs will say it is great whilst others will say it looks rubbish. wherever u go u make the most of it and have a great time everyone is in the same boat. the campus here is amazing and the halls are decent despite what anyone says

You out the back?..my mates living out there he hates it there 2 which is why he nomraly here.
I stayed in Wantage, but left. It was alright. New Court was very noisy. Very very VERY noisy...and I was in worst part. However the old court, dining room et cetera was lovely. The bar is nice but a tad small, especially when everyone tried to fit in, like the "Wells" lot as well.

Food is...acceptable if you're not picky. I usually had New Potatoes and bread if I couldn't find something! hehe. Also the formals are fantastic. I only went to the first one but I loved it!

To be honest the halls of residence are what you make them. Nearly everybody in halls think that there halls are really good or even the best. Selecting a hall depends on whether you wish to be self catered or fully catered. For the self catering halls I’ve heard that St George’s hall and the halls on Bulmershe campus are really good although with Bulmershe there’s the downside of a long journey to the Whiteknights campus. I’m in St Patrick’s hall which is fully catered. I really like this hall because it’s really lively with a good atmosphere nearly every body knows each other. This hall is one of the most attractive in the uni. The food is pleasant and the canteen is open all day so even when its not meal times you can still pick up snacks sandwiches etc using the smartcard system. The JCR used to be really poor but that has now been rectified with the installation of a brand new HD widescreen TV this week along with Sky. There is also a new snooker table in addition to the pool table. The hall bar Paddy’s however is really small but is quite lively. The most important point however, is that the residents are really lively and enjoy going out and socialising. In nearly all the night clubs and nights out at the student union St Patrick’s hall always wins the competition between all the halls for cheering the loudest. Good luck in selecting your halls of residence, prospect freshers. Reading uni is the place to be!

WESSEX HALL!!!!!

Just noticed nobody put a word in for jolly wessex yet!!

from what i have seen, all the halls look ok and as people have said, its what u make of whats available that counts. If every on a corridoor or kitchen group get along ok and u put effort in to make the place more homely, it doesnt matter whether the ceiling is crumbling!!!! (i havnt heard of any halls where this is the case..... )

essentially, it doesnt matter what uni u go to or whether u live in halls, houses or ur own student accommodation, it isnt going to be perfect. I can assure u that once u get settled in, going back home for a weekend or the holidays will feel really odd!!

But anywaY, just for the sake of it........wessex is the BEST!!!!!:champ:
I left for course reasons. As in it wasn't the right one for me
