Extra reading for top marks?

was wondering how do you read around topics for example cytogenetics and add it to the lectures notes to get top marks? Do you use journals textbooks?

There were some topics which was really difficult for me to understand. I hence made a gist, and wrote it down in a paper and scanned it. Made it 2 days before my finals, memorised it the night before finals, and to my astonishment, that was the best exam of my life, aka, easiest. Am not interested in Biology at all but somehow I do good every single time.
