oooooo
Freshers Fortnight.. everyone went down and the union was so packed you could hardly move. The queue to get to the bar took ages. And after our first exam, again, loads of people came out.

Everything else, is (for me) in comparison to that.
There have been quite a few times when I go down to the union on a Friday night and there are just people at the bar or sat down and no-one's on the dance floor, but it's always improved as the night goes on...

Griffin's licenced for 400, then we can queue roughly a hundred.

Get that rarely enough these days. We'd call 250 on the door a decent night.

how many would you say were there on the last friday of term? (out of interest) It must have been <250?

Oh, couldn't tell you off hand, I wasn't working it (I don't think).

But yes, probably.

you were there, wouldnt know if you were working or not...

twas funny- security wanting to get rid of us and no-one wanting to turn the music off:biggrin:
Does the Association recruit its door staff from the student body or do they contract it in? My bros a DS at Warwick and likes it a lot, so I was thinking about trying to do some door work at uni as a part time job...chances or not?

Funny Renal, that you say that a high proportion of muslim medics is to the detriment of student social life.
looking at the UCL student unions football team website it seems drinking is what they do best.

BL's door staff are from a proper security company I think.
Well he could mean the UCL football team , but yes I talked to the RUMS football team, I'll definitely at least join the bottom team, or the fake team the pirates or whatever :p:

Yes, I was working that night, yes we had a fairly low turnout but that was the afternoon many people went home, two days after the merger cup (which was rammed and a proper nightmare) and one day after Association Dinner.

Our door staff are from a security company, IMO, students should never be in a position of working security at their own union for exactly the same reason that security staff never socialise where they work.

Traditional student social life. It might be funny to you, it's a matter of the future of association here so I take it a little more seriously.

It would be very hard to employ students as security or door staff anyway, as anybody in that role needs to be licensed by the SIA, and to be licensed you have to pay a considerable fee, sit a number of exams and have fairly extensive training.
Not really, same with any job that needs training...was something like a weekend course for my brother then an exam and he was badged a few months later. Training and licencing were provided as long as a certain number of hours were worked a week...but at the end of the day, each uni isn't the same and will have different views on these things
