Depressing programme. It makes you feel utterly stupid!

it used to, I'd never wwatched a whole episode, i always thought they were University level questions

but I live in Brighton and applied to Royall Holloway so when Sussex and RHUL were on it I watched.
I amazed my parents by getting every biology question correct, they were only AS questions (and strangely every one was about enzymes..) cus the questions did sound sifficult but really werent if you do AS biology
so... turns out probably most questions are fine if you did AS in the subject..
Plus I knew soe other biology one about Jenner when I was in junior school.. So they've deffo no-where near such a high level as I thoguht. Maybe I'll watch it a 3rd time

According to our good friend wikipedia, UCL have never won, but to be fair, very few universities outside Oxford and Cambridge have ever won. The only ones to have done so (starting with the earliest) are:

Leicester
Sussex
Keele
Durham
Bradford
St Andrew's
Dundee
Open University
Manchester
Warwick

woohoo Sussex n Keele
(as I live in Brighton and Keele wasmy 2nd choice Uni)
Imperial's won twice too!!

My only aim in life is to get on University Challenge. Although as Lampeter have only ever appeared twice, I'm not too hopeful.

Yes, and one of those times was against Exeter, where they trounced a load of 21-year-olds with a team of 50-year-olds. Frankly I think that shouldn't be allowed.

moogle301: You're definitely right there - my sis got a load of science questions right during one programme while she was doing her Bio and Chem A Levels...

I can undeerstand why LSE and imperial arnt there cause theyre so specialised that theyd get ruiined by science questions (LSE) and arts questions (imperial).

Well LBS was on it and did very well and they were all investment bankers on their MBA's.. so I can't see what excuse LSE and Imperial have..

Why not? They go to university, and the quiz is called University Challenge, no?
Reply 91
They're going to have an edge in general knowledge, though, that no team of 21-year-olds in this world is going to have. It's fine to put mature student team against mature student team - but not mature student team versus a group of 18-21-year-olds.

I was surprised by Durham's defeat last night. I am very much against the process of allowing individual Oxbridge colleges to compete. Do you think if Durham or York moved to a more Oxbridge-like collegiate system where teaching was done in the colleges that they would be allowed to compete the way Oxbridge do? Of course not!

It's funny how the science questions could be so easy - and everything else impossible!! For me, at least?!

Same here (suppose that's why we're doing English and Eau's doing Chemistry...:p:). I like literature and music ones best.

I got 31 questions right last night, which is the most I've ever got. *is geekily excited* :proud:

I believe the rules for entering University Challenge allows unis to submit as many teams as they want, so it could be done.

How interesting...and yet wasn't there a protest in the 80s by somewhere like Leeds over the percieved Oxbridge bias? Why would they have done that if, essentially, there was none?
