Hey, Moltenmo. You can call me CaP for short because that's what I'm usually referred as in the MHoC. Tbh, my holiday could've been worse if I didn't do something productive so I guess going on NCS is worth it - have actually enjoyed Phase 1. Going on Phase 2 later this evening. In terms of having no friends going with you, I was in the same position. Best thing to do is to be yourself, bring some snacks and share them, talk to people and avoid being quiet (I know some people are shy). In terms of wearing a harness, you only need that for rock climbing and when they do say it's "safe", they really are safe so don't panic/worry about it. Let me how it goes for you.

Hey caP. I decided to not to go to NCS as I wasn't feeling all to well and didn't want to put my health on the line. I think I'll go next year as I hear there are a few 17-year-olds who go to NCS. I think for now I'll just find a summer job instead, learn driving and get a head start on my A-Level subjects. Are you still doing the NCS challenge?

P.S. how does one join a political party on TSR? Are there debates that take place regularly?

Fair enough. You can always do NCS next summer  . Atm, I'm almost done with NCS, I just have the volunteering and campaigning days left for my social action project. Then the graduation itself.

In terms of joining the MHoC, you need to go to 'my user groups' and join a political party from there. It would be best if you post in the 'Become an MP and join a political party' thread but usually party leadership asks the speakership team to forward a list of accounts to be duped check by the CT.

Not sure if you can really call it debate these days but there's no harm in giving the mhoc a go.

I'm currently on Phase 3 of NCS which is the Social Action. I put myself forward as Head of Communications for my team and we're working to raise money for a charity - can't really go into further detail. The designing bit is quite dull, we met our partner today and are sorting things out for fundraising and campaigning days.

Me too I am loving it as the campaign is so fun I love it cannot wait till next week phase 3b cannot wait.

The campaign is a bit boring IMO, the first half of Phase 3 of the Social Action is mainly a lot of preparation for the second half of the Phase. I'm almost finished now albeit I have campaigning day tomorrow. We've raised £128.50 for the charity we're working for today during volunteering day  . Currently trying my luck with my application for NCS Youth Board - not sure atm whether I will serve on national or regional boards should I be successful.
GCSE results in 10 dayss!!!
9 days...

as you're aware, we're the first cohort to sit the new gcse exams in english language & literature and mathematics in 2017, so we should all help each other out as it will be very bumpy on the road ahead.

things you can do ...
- introduce yourself
- what are your hobbies and interests?
- how many gcses are you taking?
- what subjects are you taking and with what exam board?
- do you think you're ready for year 11 and the new gcses?
- what's your favourite subject(s)?
- what's your dream career? (if you don't know that's completely fine, we're only in year 11 so you still have time to think.)

changes made to gcse's for current year 11's (2016-2017), if you want to see a-levels please scroll down. All of this information is from the government site.

summer 2017:

study tips to get the grade you want

be persistent.

use the pomodoro technique (google it if you don't know), it is a really effective way of getting a lot of work done in a short amount of time.

listen to some focus music on spotify or something to help you concentrate!

be organised and neat with work so you can easily review it later when you need it.

if your struggling, ask the teacher (or friends) or do some research by yourself on the internet to help you understand. Things like youtube, bbc bitesize et cetera...

be creative with notes, don't just write them out, highlight important things to remember and keywords.

don't just copy from a textbook, you won't understand (well i don't). Instead read the textbook then when you're making the notes try to put it into your own words, simplify it so it can be easier to comprehend.

i drank lots of caffeine (especially coffee because it is slow-release) during exam season to make me more alert and do stuff... Quickly it actually helps most people but i wouldn't recommend drinking any quick-release caffeine or drinking it after noon because it is going to be hard to go to sleep.

on that note, get lots of sleep.

also on that note, read your notes/textbook/work before you go to bed because it will be easier to remember.

find out your learning style. You could be an audio learner, visual, kinesthetic... I am mostly a visual learner. Click here to do a small test to find out what kind of learner you are

big tip. Plan ahead, if your going to do 2 hours of studying tomorrow make sure you do that, if you only manage to do 1 hour don't let that discourage you. You can always make up for it the next day, maybe the next day your planning to do 2 hours but since you missed out on 1 hour that day you add it on to make 3 hours. Just have that mindset and it will get you through it.

don't stress, more you do the more likely you are going to freak out mid-test and possibly fail.

The mega threads for year groups will be posted on Monday. I don't believe the year 11 thread op has been claimed, so if you want to run the thread next year, post in the current year 10 thread so others know not to create it
