I don't know. But prospects.ac.uk should have the answer:

Quick check suggests a number of places offering PgDip in psychology.
Most places seem to be fine with a related degree when applying for postgraduate study, and English is related to quite a lot.
big thing is: why do you want to go to do an masters in something you have no experience and the like.

Why is one of your options postgraduate study? Are you interested in a particular area? It's very possible that courses will take you, but what makes you think psy or phil or something will be a better option than english.

My main reason for postgraduate study would be to delay entering the working world for another year... And the reasons for doing it in something different are
1) My English course has been very thorough and I don't feel a strong desire to specialise further - I'd like to go back to reading for pleasure
2) There are various subjects that I considered applying for when I was doing my A-levels and have a strong interest in that I'd relish the chance to get a taste of

Why not just talk to the admissions tutors of courses you might be interested in doing? They'll be more help than we will.

Well the main point of this thread was to ask if I can even apply for a different subject and what my chances would be, hence whether there's even any point completing an application form, so your question isn't exactly helpful. Obviously if I did decide to apply I would talk on my application form about the subject's relationship with English, possibly how coming across it during my study had led me to a desire to develop my knowledge of it further and ways in which I had pursued my interest in the subject outside of my course

I applied for a different subject, if it helps. Got 3 offers out of 4 applications too

you'll certainly be able to do a philosphy postgrad at quite a few places.

i doubt you will be able to do psycology etc, since you will more than likely need an undergraduate degree in it. and again councelling is going to require knowledge of psyc, so i think postgrads in these areas is not really an option. there may be courses that you can do but not on the same level.

you can do plenty of arts postgrads, but are unlikely to find a science postgrad - which is what psyc is.

I'd love to do something related to psychology and/or counselling. Would this be possible with a BA in English?

You'd need to do a conversion course to obtain BPS (British Psychological Society) credit. Once you have that, you will be able to persue a postgrad. However, psych postgrads are often extremely competitive and require extensive work experience.

Take a look at the BPS website
http://www.bps.org.uk
but the conversion course is a postgrad course, and is offered at masters degree level at sussex and essex at least. mainly the course is postgrad diploma level and is given offered by universities who do not have a strong background in psychology, but every now and again you find a good dept. offering them.,

theres quite a difference between PGdip and a masters though. i wouldnt recommend doing the former if it isnt followed by the latter
there is a difference, it's called a dissertation, that's all.

true.
totally overlooking pgcert. i dont think pgdip is an option- as u said same content - some prior knowledge will be required.
