The Student Room Group

Choice to PhD

I have received two PGR offers. One is from Nottingham Economics(MRes+PhD 1+3years). The other is from UCL Psychology(PhD 3years). Neither offers a scholarship (I am an international student). I have a mixed background in both economics and cognitive psychology.

I am currently considering which one should I choose because both are top school in each field. I do not have a preference for these two. As I do not have a clear idea of what I should do a research, I believe a transitional MRes would be better. On the other hand, the reputation of UCL psychology makes me a feeling of loss if I do not go.

There is a £4000 difference in tuition fee (UCL costs higher) and a few in living cost. The total cost only differs around £10000.
